Coloring Your Human Hair Replacement System

The topic of coloring of hair replacement systems can cause a bit of debate among professionals and hair wearers doing the job at home.

First and foremost it is important to know what you’re dealing with—the reality.

Human hair for use in hair replacement systems 99.9% of the time is of Chinese or Indian origin.

The hair is gathered and put in bulk into vats for processing.

The processing includes compression of the cuticle (the rough outer edge of the hair shaft) and bleaching.

There are literally millions of hairs from thousands of heads blended together in these processes so with each hair system there is no consistency to begin with regarding the personality of the hair. Once the Black hair is bleached down to accept dye for the variety of hair colors, it is dyed again in bulk in vats using TEXTILE dyes. This makes it so unlike our own growing hair right there.

The hair has now gone through two pretty serious chemical treatments and color processing with textile dye. If the factory runs low on a color, they will often have to take a color that they have quantity of, strip the color and re-dye the hair to meet production requirements, now you’ve added two more chemical treatments and the hair still has to be permed to accommodate movement of curl. When the consumer uses over the counter hair coloring products they will sometimes have success.

The hair can NEVER be bleached as it will turn green or orange and often will not take any additional hair color that is applied.

The point to remember is that this is not like the hair growing on your head. You don’t really know how much chemical processing has been done to the hair before it lands on your head and the results can be disastrous.

It is suggested that whenever applying hair color, test a small section of the hair first, take your time, always go with a color slightly lighter than the color you want, you can’t lighten your system and the hair in your system will take the color quickly and darker than you might expect.

Of course, the best solution to the hair replacement coloring problem is simply to ensure that the color of your hair piece is a good match with your own natural hair color.

Avoiding coloring your hair system is always the safest way to go. There is, however, no doubt that often hair wearers can and will find themselves in a situation where coloring the hair is necessary and it is in this case that the above advice should be considered in order to achieve the best possible results and a natural looking hair replacement system.

You can always check with your hair replacement company before coloring for any additional advice.
